Leadership, Public Speaking, Mentoring and Teaching, Agriculture and Livestock
At nearly age 19, my 4-H journey has begun to come to an end. This year also happens to be my five-year-old nephew's first year within 4-H. My main focus this year is to get him immersed in as much of it as possible. I am looking forward to working with him to train his very first sheep this summer. Neither he nor I come from a livestock or agriculture orientated family. As I wrap up being a 4-Her, I find myself more and more taking on the role of teaching and sharing the wealth of information I have gathered throughout my many years in 4-H. In 2024, I plan to wrap up my livestock, photography, foods, and public speaking projects for the last time.
Horticulture and Agriculture, Poultry, Cooking and Baking, Community Service, Leadership
I look forward to continuing with my 4-H Horticulture project and am thinking about getting a summer job at a commercial greenhouse near me to work with more seedling varieties. I will again have a cantaloupe patch on our land and hope to have enough surplus to sell some at a farmers’ market and donate some to our town’s local food bank. I will track my success with various methods of erosion control and moisture evaporation. This summer I am going to start seedlings on a staggered schedule so that I can extend the growing and selling season. Hopefully I can turn this into a Horticulture Education project entry at the 4-H Fair this summer.
In 2024 I want to try Woodworking as a new project. I have looked at some plans to make a sofa table for my family that I think we’d use a lot. I also plan to continue with my Poultry entries for Barred Rock hens, cooking / baking project, and photography. I also look forward to our 4-H clubs community service projects and helping at the county fair food stand again this summer.
Leadership, Community Involvement, Livestock Care and Education
In 2024, I am looking forward to improving the Llama/Alpaca presence, awareness, and providing increased education about camelids in my county. I will participate in market rabbit project, llama/alpaca halter, obstacle, and costume show, showmanship, 4-H special interest, Jr. Leadership, lip sync contest, cloverbuds day camp, demonstration, nutrition bowl, fair royalty, and more.
Mechanical Sciences and Welding, Community Outreach and Leadership, Livestock, Archery, Woodworking, Canning, Wildlife and Nature Conservation
Every year, I love taking on new projects that I have never done before, and this time around, I have decided to show a lamb and a turkey. I will continue to show Duroc pigs, meat birds (Cornish Cross), egg-laying birds (Ameraucanas, Copper Marans, Delaware, and Welsummers), and their eggs. Another new thing I am looking forward to is competing in the Poultry and Egg Judging Contest.
Additionally, I compete in archery, shotgun, welding, small engines, lawnmower, and tractor contests. I have completed several woodworking, art, natural resources, lost arts, crafts, home environment, and canning. My grandmother enjoys making cards and canning, so we work on those projects together every year. I have canned jellies, jams, green beans, peaches, and vegetable relish this year. What I am most excited about is seeing everyone's Mechanical Science Project proudly displayed at the fair this year.
Tractor Projects, Forestry, Livestock, Leadership, Gardening, Construction, Entomology, Vetinerary Science, Starter Calves and Dairy
I specifically am looking forward to competing in Senior division tractor now. I’ll have to back a hayrack, which is more challenging. I also hope to place in showmanship both in starter calves and the dairy project. Junior Leaders has been exciting as we have been involved with many community service projects and are looked upon to provide leadership. With some years of experience, I do hope to be elected as an officer for my local 4-H club this year. Each year, I’ve been giving a demonstration on a certain project and skill I’ve learned to others in my 4-H club. I hope it encourages others to take new projects and teach them something I have valued. This year I have enrolled in Entomology, Forestry, Gardening, Tractor, Vet Science and more!
Blacksmithing, Robotics, Community Service, Leadership, Woodworking, Shooting, Archery, Dairy Goats, Cooking
I’m currently enrolled in Blacksmithing, Woodworking, Shooting, Archery, Dairy Goats, Cooking, Cake decorating and Robotics. My favorite two projects are blacksmithing and Robotics. I have been working on cleaning out our Shed to make myself a blacksmithing workshop. I have been working and saving to buy the equipment for my workshop. My dad and I would like to make a set of kitchen knives. In Robotics I’m working hard to learn the ins and outs of my robot so I can go to competition.
